Estrella de la manana

Story:

In the mountainous coasts of Veracruz, Mexico, Princess Estrella de la Mañana (Morning Star), daughter of King Tenizti and future queen of the Totonac Kingdom, would wander alone through the dense forests. During one of her explorations, she encountered a young woodcutter known as the Deer Prince, and they instantly fell in love despite exchanging only a few words.

When King Tenizti discovered their forbidden romance, he flew into a rage and ordered his priests to capture the lovers. Believing he must appease the gods' anger, the king decreed that both Morning Star and Deer Prince be sacrificed. From their spilled blood grew a small shrub with intertwined branches resembling the lovers' final embrace, covered in star-shaped flowers. Soon after, vanilla plants sprouted from the ground, their black pods swaying in the wind as if whispering the eternal love of the departed souls.
